Over 10 years ago interest rates were at a record low and we were looking for a new business venture. We were looking for a long term investment and a possible pension. We decided to buy a property and rent it out.
The property we selected and purchase had been a Student let. It was up to specification in terms of electrical circuits and Gas Central Heating, but it was very rough around the edges. The kitchen was rough, the ground floors were damp and the decoration was poor. Having had experience of renovating several properties, we started the transformation and our vison was to make an affordable desirable home.
After 18 months of renovation the property, it was ready for a tenant, but how were we going to let it? After a lot of thinking we plucked up the courage and marketed it ourselves. Since then we have never looked back.
We understand letting property yourself isn't for everyone. Already being self-employed we are able talk to our potential clients during office hours, if you are employed, this might not be so easy, most of our Letting Agency's Clients are in this situation. You may just not want the pressure and stress of letting your own property, and yes it is stressful. You might have over a dozen applicants for one property, you have to choose one. It's not nice to let the other 11 applicants down but is has to be done.
Despite all the pressures and stress, there is something very rewarding about supplying an affordable desirable home and finding some lovely tenants, and you are in full control.
